Message From The Office Of The Mayor

Dear Residents,

On behalf of all of us at the City of Berwyn, I wish you and your family the most joyous of holiday seasons. This is the time of year to reflect and be thankful for all that we have been able to accomplish and also a time to look forward to continued health, happiness and prosperity in the coming New Year.

This issue of the Neighborhood Watch Newsletter focuses on winter crime trends and safety. There are many important safeguards and tips within these pages to help ensure a safe winter season. I encourage all of you to check on your neighbors, especially the elderly, during the cold months. Please make note of the warming shelters listed below in the event that you or someone you know is without adequate heat in their home.

As we come to the end of this record-breaking winter, I’d like to extend my sincere appreciation to every Berwyn resident that checked on their neighbors during the extreme cold. The main focus of the Spring Neighborhood Watch Newsletter is the protection of our children. On Tuesday, April 29th, at 7:00 pm, we will be holding our first City-wide Neighborhood Watch meeting of 2014 where we will have guest speakers from Mothers Against Drunk Driving as well as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Also, on Friday, May 2nd, the Berwyn Police Department will again be asking you to “Take 25” minutes to talk with your children about safety. Between 5 and 9 p.m., families are encouraged to visit us in the Community Room of the Police Department for presentations and information for both children and adults.

Finally, on the last few pages of this issue, we’ve included the Berwyn Police Department’s official crime prevention guide to residential burglary. Since establishing the position of Block Captain Coordinators earlier this year, it has become a goal of the Neighborhood Watch to reduce residential burglary incidents in the City of Berwyn by promoting awareness of occurrences on your block and by presenting information like this to help prevent you from becoming a victim. I encourage everyone to fill out the household inventory on the back page, and keep it in a safe place in the event that any of your important belongings ever need to be reported stolen or missing.

I wish everyone a mild and safe spring, and I hope to see you at the Neighborhood Watch meeting on April 29th!

Respectfully,

Mayor Robert J. Lovero

Estimados Residentes,

Atentamente,

Mayor Robert J. Lovero
