The City of Berwyn is divided into eight wards. Each ward is represented by an alderperson who is elected by their constituency to serve a four year term.

In addition to representing the interests of their ward residents, together the eight aldermen and Mayor comprise the City Council, which serves as the local legislative branch of government of the City of Berwyn.

City Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 8:00pm to exercise general and specific powers delegated by state statute.

Its 8 standing aldermanic committees work with city departments on the execution of city initiatives, review proposed ordinances, resolutions and orders before they are voted on by the full city council.

Mayor Lovero’s commitment to public service began early, as a Boy Scout Troop 63 member at St. Mary of Celle, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended Fenwick High School, Loyola University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and Northern Illinois University’s School of Law, passing the bar in 1981. As Mayor, he’s championed Berwyn's business revitalization, collaborating and investing in the Berwyn Development Corporation to advance redevelopment across the Depot District, Ogden Avenue (Route 66), Cermak Road, and Roosevelt Road. His leadership helped attract and grow a broad and diverse business community, including Berwyn Shops: A Homegrown Project, a community entrepreneurship incubator, as well as major national retailers and corporate chains.

A prolific community fundraiser, Mayor Lovero has helped raise significant funding for local nonprofits and public schools, and established the Berwyn Holiday Fund, a community-led charity program, which has served more than 11,794 community members over the past 16 years during the holidays.

With over three decades of service, Mayor Lovero has established a legacy of leading with integrity, endless energy, and a deep commitment to Berwyn's residents.
